This dance is a carry over from the English Old Time. There is a technical script available. Most modern dancers have little interest in pseudo-ballet movement, and prefer to dance in a less regimented style. The step-cross-step has a rythmic bounce action, and uses natural turn out of the feet on the cross. The cross appears as heel to toe, and approximately 90 degrees between the feet. After the weight is taken and absorbed, the heel then lifts, to create spring for the next step. It is almost completely common for dancers to use heel leads on the walk steps. The music itself is available on recordings of Jigs and Reels, by Scottish and Irish dance bands.
